PETERSEN MEDIA: With Justyn Cox continuing to fill in with Josh Bates Motorsports for an injured Tim Kaeding, Cox Racing has decided to continue to field the familiar No. 31c at this weekend’s 25th Annual Trophy Cup and they have named Wilton, CA driver Matt Peterson as the pilot.

“My family and I got to talking over the last week or so, and we had some different ideas and ultimately decided to go with a California driver and give back to the local pool so to speak,” Justyn Cox said. “Our team is family based and over the last couple of years Matt Peterson and his family have become like family to us and we have seen some good things on his limited schedule and we are really excited to see what he can do in our car.”

Despite a hit and miss schedule the last couple of seasons, Peterson jumped at the opportunity presented to him by the Cox family.

“When I got the call I was in shock to be perfectly honest,’ Matt Peterson said. “I can’t thank Jon Cox, Justyn Cox, and Rodney Tiner, Jr enough for thinking of me and extending me an incredible opportunity to compete at the Trophy Cup. I feel like I am always the guy who never gets a call back when inquiring about opportunities so to have a team like the Cox Racing believe in me and give me a shot during the biggest race of the year really means the world to me.”

2018 has been an up and down year for Peterson, though in his lone start at Thunderbowl Raceway back in April he put together quite a run going from 16th to seventh on a rubber down surface, so he does know his way around the high banked facility.

“I am looking forward to the weekend overall,” Cox noted. “The 42x has been really good for myself, and I am excited to see how the family car performs with Matt behind the wheel.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-37, Wins-2, Top 5’s-14, Top 10’s-19

ON TAP: Matt Peterson will take the wheel of the Cox Racing No. 31c this Thursday – Saturday in Tulare, CA at the 25th Annual Trophy Cup.
