PETERSEN MEDIA: Unfortunately for Justyn Cox, his Midwest trip ended just like it started, and that was with mechanical issues during the Friday night program of the Knoxville Nationals.

“It was disappointing to have our week end like that,” Cox said. “During our qualifying night we laid down a great lap in time trials but we struggled a bit racing, and then on Friday we had issues end our weekend.”

Timing in third fastest on Wednesday night at the Nationals, Cox could not get moving forward in his heat race, as he would slip from his eighth starting spot to finish ninth, and be forced into the night’s C Main.

After missing a transfer to the B out of his heat by just one position, Cox would run second in the C to Jac Haudenschild, and move into the night’s B Main event. From the back of the pack, the Sacramento, CA driver would finish in the 20th spot aboard his Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c machine.

Heading back to the Knoxville Raceway on Friday night to see where he would line up on Saturday night, Cox would have a nice draw for his qualifying flight, and would end up sixth fastest.

Slipping back to finish eighth in his Friday night heat, Cox and company discovered an issue under the hood of their entry, and it would prove terminal for the weekend, and Cox’s Nationals would come to a disappointing close.

“It was just bad luck for our team, and it is just unfortunate it had to happen during the biggest week of the year,” Cox said. “I am really thankful to have had this opportunity and really need to thank Rod, Kyle, Dan, Eric, and my dad for taking the trip and working so hard. I also have to thank all of our partners for making this trip possible.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, McColloch’s RV,  and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2015!

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-42, Wins-3, Top 5’s-12, Top 10’s-17

ON TAP: Cox will be back in action on August 29th during the Johnny Key Classic.
