PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning home to Northern California after a weekend away in Oregon, Justyn Cox and the Cox Family Racing team would finish sixth at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.

“The track was tricky all night, and there just wasn’t much room to pass in the feature event,” Cox said. “We had a much better car than the result shows, but it was a good night work on patiently running the bottom and taking what other give you.”

Timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c machine in second fastest of the 28 entrants in time trials, Cox would take part in an exciting heat race. From the second row, Cox would race hard to earn a second place finish and move into the redraw.

With lady luck not visiting him tonight, Cox would find himself with the vaunted eight pill, meaning he would take the green flag from the fourth row in the feature event.

As the track continued to slick off as the night went on, crews would work hard prior to the ‘A’ to give competitors a racy track. When the race came to life, the low groove would prove to be the choice of the field and it would take a few laps for the field to settle in.

Once he was able to get down to the bottom, Cox would find himself back in the ninth spot. Showing patience, Cox would slowly work his way forward as he took advantage of a couple guys missing the bottom.

Late in the race, Cox would get into the sixth spot, as drivers would try to make the top work and end up falling back. Holding onto sixth in the race’s final laps, Cox would take the checkered flag with his eighth Top-10 finish of the season.

“A couple guys tried to make the top work late in the race, and we capitalized and got a few more positions out of it,” Cox said. “The RMI team did a nice job of trying to bring the surface back, and with more time on the equipment I am confident they’ll get it dialed in.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, EyeLusions, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2017!

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-17, Wins-2, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-8

ON TAP: Justyn Cox will take another shot at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night as he will look for his second win of the season at the famous ¼ mile.
