PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing to stay extremely hot, Justyn Cox flirted with a win at the Fall Nationals finale before settling for a third place finish which marked his fourth consecutive podium finish.

“It has been a fun run lately. We have landed on the podium in the Van Dyke car, the Bates car, and now our car the last three straight weeks so that’s pretty cool,” Justyn Cox said.

Making the last minute decision to head to Chico on Saturday night to take part in the Fall Nationals, Tribute to Stephen Allard, Cox opened the night up by timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31C machine in fourth quickest in qualifying group No. 1.

Picking up a heat race win, Cox would move into the Dash where he would finish fifth and put himself in the third row of the 40-lap Fall Nationals feature event starting line up.

When the race came to life, Cox would slip back to sixth before he was able to work his way past Willie Croft and Mitchell Faccinto to take over the fourth position. Going to work on the thick Silver Dollar Speedway cushion amidst and extended green flag run, Cox would battle with Tony Gualda for third before getting the spot.

White battling a broken wing slider, the complexion of the race change on lap 37 and Cox would line up in the second position on a restart with three to go. Throwing a big move on Kyle Hirst in turns three and four, Cox would take over the race lead but exiting turn four he would miss his line and get loose allowing Hirst to drive back by him.

Under siege from Dominic Scelzi, the duo would battle for the second spot and allow Hirst to get away, as Scelzi would slip by Cox and he would close his night out with a third place finish.

‘We had a good car, and that restart on lap 36 really let me get sorted and situated,” Cox said. “We had a good battle with Scelzi and Hirst late and just came up short. Thanks to my guys for all their hard work. I think we had a good car, and if cautions at the end fell differently it may have been a different outcome. Still happy with another podium and excited for this weekend.”
