Croft Records Third and Seventh Place Finishes at Fall Nationals

PETERSEN MEDIA- Paying homage to the late Stephen Allard over the weekend in Chico, CA during the Fall Nationals, Willie Croft had a strong weekend that saw him land on the podium Friday night before a hard charge effort Saturday culminated with a seventh place finish.

“Friday night we were just in the right spot, and with the way the track was we ended up on the podium,” Croft said. “Saturday night, we got behind early but the guys worked hard and we raced really well all night.”

Timing the Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller backed No. 29 entry in third fastest during in time trial flight to get Friday night started, Croft would run second in his heat race and garner a position into the all-important Dash.

Picking up a fifth place finish in the Dash, Croft rolled off the starting grid from the inside of the third row on a surface that was still wet and very fast. Keeping his machine in the Top-5, Croft would take advantage of a couple of guys falling out of the race and picking up a few spots.

With a fast car underneath him, he was able to keep the lead duo of Justyn Cox and Shane Golobic in his sights, but couldn’t make up any ground on them as he closed Friday night out with a third place finish.

Back in action for the Fall Nationals; Tribute to SA finale, Croft would time in 10thquickest in his time trial group, which put him in the third row of his heat race.

Able to hang on to the fifth and final transfer position into the 40-lap feature event, Croft would find himself back in the 19thstarting position.

On a very slick surface, Croft had a good car underneath him and was able to work his way forward during a very wild feature event. While he did pick up a few “give me’s’, Croft was able to slice and dice his way around the quarter mile bullring.

An open red on the 22ndlap allowed Croft’s crew to inspect his tires and relay the condition to him. With them in good shape, they gave Croft the all clear to continue to push forward. Fighting his way up into fifth at one point, an untimely caution would negate his pass.

With rubber down in the closing laps, Croft would hang on to finish in the seventh position.

“Pretty good weekend for our race team, and hopefully we can keep running well during this stretch of big races out here,” Croft said. “Big thanks to all of our supporters and my guys for what they continue to do for this team.”
