PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing to get back to full race mode with the Northern CA weather finally playing nice, Dawson Hammes put together another solid run at Marysville Raceway on Saturday night as he tallied an eighth-place finish.
“We didn’t time in great, but we were able to race well and get a Top-10 on Saturday night,” Dawson Hammes said. “The racetrack was tricky, but happy to be able to be back in the racing groove after the early season weather.”
With 25 cars in the house on Saturday night at Maryville Raceway, Hammes got the night opened up by timing the Movement Brewing/STS Farming/All About Fire Protection backed No. 55D in 10th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Marysville, CA driver settled into second as he worked around a surface that stayed hooked up and heavy for much of the night.
Finishing second in his heat, Hammes was locked into the feature event as he was slated to take the green flag from the 12th starting position.
With the track continuing to stay heavy and technical, Hammes hit the speedway for the 25-lapper as he slowly worked his way forward as passing was tough on this night.
Able to quickly work into the Top-10, Hammes held his own as he searched around the speedway looking for more. Getting up to the sixth spot just after the halfway point of the race, a couple of miscues opened the door for a couple of competitors to get by Hammes as he ultimately finished int eh eighth position.
“We were a little better than where we finished but it was a tricky track at times,’ Hammes said. “I want to thank my parents, Carson, and Ally for their constant support, and I also want to thank Junior, Cody, Dillon, and Evan for their help at the track. I also have to give a huge shoutout to my Uncle Tony and Dennise Burbank for being at every race we have ran so far this season.”
