PETERSEN MEDIA: Last Saturday night was a one Dawson Hammes would like to forget. After having issues in heat race, Hammes felt some of the affects in the feature and ended up going a lap down in the work area. With that in the past, Hammes is set for another go this Saturday night at Marysville Raceway.

“Last week was tough, but nobody gave up,” Hammes said. “I spun out in my heat race and collected another car and ended up not being able to finish. We fixed it the best we could, but in the feature, we had an issue with a shock stud, which was probably from the heat race incident but it caused us to go down a lap early while we were in the work area. We were fast once we got back out, so it does have me feeling good about tomorrow night.”

Saturday night on a very slick racing surface early in the night, Hammes went out late in the time trial session and still ended up timing the Movement Brewing/STS Farming/All About Fire Protection No. 55D mount in third fastest overall.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Marysville, CA racer would make a costly mistake as he looped his entry and endured contact from another car which caused damage his Summit Partner Bank Agency/Haper Inc./Ace Attorney Services entry.

Making repairs prior to the feature, Hammes made the call for the feature as he took the green flag from the 15th starting position. With moisture going down on the tack prior to the ‘A’, the surface went from slick and slow to hooked up and fast.

From the eighth row, Hammes was able to make quick work of the field as he quickly raced his way into the Top-10 and worked into seventh before issues caused him to slow.

With a shock stud being the culprit, Hammes’ crew went to work to make repairs, despite the race going back green. A quick yellow allowed him to return to the track, but he was now a lap down. Opting to remain on the track, Hammes was pleased with how things felt as he ultimately capped the night off with a 15th place finish.

“We were really good in the feature I thought, going a lap down hurt us, but it is part of it,” Hammes said. “My parents, my brother, and Cody do a great job and I appreciate all of their hard work.”

Hammes Motorsports would like to thank Movement Brewing, STS Farming, All About Fire Protection, Summit Partners Burbank Agency, Harper Inc., and Ace Attorney Services for their continued support.
