PETERSEN MEDIA- Greg DeCaires seemed to cool off a touch over the weekend as his 11-race podium streak came to an end on Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway as ‘The Catfish’ finished in the eighth spot.
“It was definitely not my best night in the seat,” DeCaires said. “This team has been awesome all year long, and Saturday night did not go quite how we had hoped.”
Laying down the third fastest qualifying lap of the night aboard the Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic/Foothill 7 TV/RedHawk Casino No. 4SA machine, DeCaires would line up in a very wild heat race.
Lining up in the second row, a number of start attempts were needed before the race finally got underway and DeCaires jumped out into the early lead and picked up the win.
Pulling the three pill in the redraw, the Elk Grove, CA veteran would battle inside the Top-five much of the night as the leaders found themselves racing in very heavy traffic.
Missing his mark a couple of times, DeCaires would get up over the cushion in turns one and two and he lost valuable track position and drifted back to the eighth spot. Unable to pick up any of the positions he lost, DeCaires would end his night with his 12th Top-10 finish of the season with an eighth place effort.
“We had some challenging laps in the feature event, and needless to say things just did not go as planned,” DeCaires added. “I have to think this team for all of their efforts, and we will look to get back on track this weekend before the big Mark Forni Classic in a couple of weeks.”
