PETERSEN MEDIA: The last the time the World of Outlaws invaded the Williams Grove Speedway, Lance Dewease and his Dietz Motorsports team found themselves in victory lane during the Summer Nationals. Though they didn’t quite make it back to victory lane on Saturday night during the National Open, Dewease and company continue their late season surge, as Dewease picked up a fifth place finish.

“It keep saying it, but it is really promising to see how we continue to get better as the season comes to a close,” Dewease said. “It look us a little longer than we would have liked to get rolling, but this gives us some confidence.”

With rain washing out Friday’s program during time trials, Dewease and his team were back to work on Saturday night, and with 55 cars checked into the pit area, Dewease timed the C.C. Dietz Builders/Conduit Connections/Hess Ornamental Iron No. 14 machine in 17th fastest, putting his entry on the front row of his heat race.

Picking up the heat race win, the Fayetteville, PA driver earned a spot in the dash, where an eighth place finish put him in the fourth row for the 40-lap, $50,000-to-win feature event.

When the race went green, Dewease hung around the Top-10 during a majority of the race, as he searched around the Williams Grove Speedway to find some real estate that his car liked.

Battling with Craig Dollansky, and at times Paul McMahan, Dewease found himself in the 10th spot, during an open red flag that fell on the 27th lap.

As the lights flashed back to green with 13-laps-to-go, Dewease’s machine came to life, as he began picking up positions, as he inched closer to the front.

Getting by Shane Stewart late, Dewease would cross the stripe in the fifth spot aboard his Pro Shocks by LD Shocks/Triple X/Wings Unlimited backed entry.

“It was a great night for us,” he added. “We looked to be really fast on Friday before the rain came, and we were able to transfer that over to Saturday night, and put a solid night together.”
