PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals after taking a couple of years off, DJ Netto was pleased with how he stacked up agisnt some of the sports best, but his attempt at making the Saturday night A Main would come up short after experiencing mechanical issues.

“I thought we raced really well on Friday as well as during the Saturday night program,” DJ Netto said. “Unfortunately we had some bad luck late in the prelim feature set us back a little further on Saturday night.”

Hitting the track on Friday night, Netto would line his Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain/Van De Pol Enterprises No. 88n machine up in the fourth row of his heat race.

In a prime position to earn valuable passing points, the Hanford, CA driver would work his way up to finish third in what was a wild heat race.

A strong point total would place Netto in the second row of his qualifier, and after battling with Bryan Clauson and Hunter Schurenberg a third place effort would put Netto in the eighth row for the 25-lap preliminary night feature event.

When the race went green, Netto worked around the Tulsa Expo Raceway looking to move forward and improve his Saturday night starting position. Unfortunately, Netto would have issues with his bleeders, and he would pull of the racing surface early and be credited with a 23rd place finish.

By way of his finish, Netto would find himself in the sixth row of one of the twin ‘D’ Mains on Saturday night, needing to finish in the Top-Six to move into the C main.

Once on the track Saturday, Netto worked quickly as he jumped into the seventh spot and began pressuring for the sixth and final transfer position.

Each time he would get the spot, the yellow would waive and negate his efforts. A restart would see the Hanford, CA pilot get the spot but just after making the pass something would go sour under the hood of Netto’s entry and his Chili Bowl would come to a close.

“It was a disappointing end to our Chili Bowl, but I was happy with how we raced after not running a midget for a few years,” Netto added. “I have to thank my guys for giving me a very strong car and all of the people who support all of our racing efforts.”

DJ and his Netto Racing team would like to thank Netto Agriculture, Penny Newman Grain, Kaeding Performance, and Van De Pol Enterprises for their support in 2016.

ON TAP: Netto will now turn his attention back to the Sprint Car as he is set to resume his 2016 season when the World of Outlaws invade the Las Vegas Dirt Track on March 3rd and 4th.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-7, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-2
