PETERSEN MEDIA: Over the last few weeks, DJ Netto has been bad fast with the King of the West Series. That statement stayed true on Saturday night as the Hanford, CA driver worked his way from the 12th starting spot to finish fourth during the sixth annual Howard Kaeding Classic.

“Obliviously starting that far back we didn’t make it into the Dash, but we had a great racecar in the feature event,” DJ Netto said. “My guys continue to give me a great car, and I was pleased to work our way forward like we did.”

Checking in at the Ocean Speedway on Saturday night, a marine layer would move in just before qualifying and the track would stay extremely fast during the early part of the program.

Timing his Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain/Kaeding Performance backed No. 88n machine in 11th fastest. Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Netto would fall to the second spot when the green flag waived and would finish there as the locked down speedway would offer no passing during heat races.

Lining up in the 12th spot of the feature event, the track would slow down and widen out in the early part of the race, and this would allow Netto to work his way through a stout field of cars.

Working his way into the Top-10 by the 10th lap, Netto would take advantage of a lap 14 restart that would see him sail into the eighth spot. Getting into the fifth spot over the next 12 laps, Netto would occupy that position when the race’s final caution flew on lap 26.

Getting by Chase Johnson during the final green flag run of the night, Netto would close out his 2016 Howard Kaeding Classic with a fourth place finish.

“It was a fun race to run,” Netto said. “The track was pretty fast early and I was just patient and it started to slick up a bit and allow for some passing. I keep saying it, but these guys keep giving me a fast racecar and I am hoping we can build off of a good night and head into a big weekend and do some damage.”

DJ and his Netto Racing team would like to thank Netto Agriculture, Penny Newman Grain, Kaeding Performance, Shell Rotella T6, and Van De Pol Enterprises for their support in 2016.

ON TAP: Netto will be at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA this Friday and Saturday night as he takes part in the third annual Peter Murphy Classic.
