PETERSEN MEDIA- With rain and other events keeping him out of the seat since his season opener back in late February, Shawn Wright returned to action on Saturday night at the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA where a turn one accident would bring his night to an early end.
“It took a while to get comfortable again, and I thought we laid down a good qualifying lap, but it just did not hold up and that turned out to bite us in the feature,” Shawn Wright said.
Battling with the King of Kings Winged 360ci series for what was their season opening event, Wright timed his Wright Process Systems/A.R.T./ Wilwood No. 99 machine in 12th fastest.
Battling with Steven Kent and Scott Parker in his heat race, the Lodi, CA native turned Tulare, CA resident would finish in the sixth spot as he continued to acclimate to his car on the way to the feature event.
When the feature event went green, Wright went into turn one, and as cars piled up in front of him, he would have nowhere to go and his machine would get upside down.
The damage would be too much to get repaired in the work area, and Wright’s night would come to a close earlier than expected.
“It was one of those deals that you hope to not be a part of,” Wright added. “It’s disappointing for my team, but we will put it back together and try again this weekend if the weather holds.”
