PETERSEN MEDIA: Losing a rear end during hot laps on Wednesday night and missing time trials, Cory Eliason got his elbows up with the Civil War Series as he came from the back of the C and B mains to make it into the feature event before an issue would take him out of contention on the ninth lap.

“It was a long night, but I am thankful for everyone that helped us out and made it possible to runt he alphabet,” Cory Eliason said.

Returning to the seat of the Van Dyke Motorsports No. 5H on Wednesday night, Eliason would line the Lucas Oil/Hansen Machine/NAAKE Suspension entry in the fifth row of the first of two twin C-Main events.

Needing to win to move on, the Kingsburg, CA driver got down to business as he carved his way forward to pick up the win and keep his night going.

Moving into the 12-lap B Main event where he lined up in the 18th spot, Eliason continued to impress as he worked his way near a transfer spot. With a couple of late cautions bunching the field back up, Eliason would become a threat to transfer, and would use a last lap move around the top in turns three and four to surge into the fifth spot and punch his ticket into the 30-lap feature event.

Lining up 21st in the feature event, Eliason would have his work cut out for him even more as rubber had gone down on the speedway making passing extremely tough.

Able to work his way forward in the first few laps, Eliason’s brakes would lock up under a red flag on the ninth lap, and his night would come to a close.

Climbing aboard his self owned entry to take on the World of Outlaws in the Friday and Saturday portion of the Gold Cup Race of Champions, Eliason would make both feature events as he would finish in the 12th spot on Friday night before charging from 24th to finish 11th during the Saturday night Championship finale.

“It was good to make all three feature events during the Gold Cup, but we certainly would have liked to have been a little better,” Eliason said. “Wednesday night was a little stressful but it was fun to run the alphabet like we did and it was great to have some success against the World of Outlaws.”

The Van Dyke Motorsports team would like to thank Lucas Oil, Hansen Machine, NAAKE Suspension, Maxim Chassis, and Moyle Racing Engines for their support during the year.
