PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending a little over a month traveling in the Midwest, Cory Eliason came back to the Golden State just as strong as he left it as he picked up a third place finish during the 56th Annual Johnny Key Classic on Saturday night at the Ocean Speedway.

“I just want to thank the McColloch Motorsports team for giving me a chance to come out and run,” Eliason said. “It was a last minute deal, and I wasn’t going to race if it wasn’t for them, so great to get a good finish.”

With 38 cars checked into the Ocean Speedway on Saturday night, Eliason would time in fifth quick amongst the 34 cars taking a time, which placed him on the front row of his heat race.

Needing the win to punch his ticket into the ‘Dash for Cash’, Eliason would get off to a great start in his heat race, as he would rocket out to the lead and never look back. By way of his win, Eliason would move into the Dash For Cash where the seven pill lined him up in the fourth row.

Struggling a touch, Eliason would finish in the eighth spot, which placed him in the fourth row of the 50-lap Johnny Key Classic feature event. When the race came to life on the racy ¼ mile, Eliason would get off to a slow start as he hung around inside the Top-10 biding his time.

Running eight at the halfway point during the mandatory stoppage, Eliason’s crew would make minor adjustments to his entry, and send him back out for the final segment of the $5,000-to-win feature event. With timely cautions sprinkled through the last part of the race, Eliason would take full advantage of restart opportunity as he worked his way into the Top-Five late in the race.

As the race came to a close, Eliason would seemingly get better lap after lap. Making a late move on Tommy Tarlton, Eliason would take the checkered flag with a third place finish.

“We had some issues early in the night, but we were pretty fast each time on the track,” Eliason added. “Again, just want to thank everyone who helped out, and made it possible to race.”
