PETERSEN MEDIA- Tommy Tarlton and his Tarlton Motorsports team overcame a ton of adversity on Friday night to finish sixth at the Ocean Speedway.
“I owe it all to the guys,” Tommy Tarlton said. “We had an engine issue in hot laps, they got it swapped. We had a couple of tangles in the feature, and they made repairs, and the car just happened to be good enough to work through the field as well.”
Having engine issues during warm ups, Tarlton would be unable to get a time during qualifying time trials, and he would line his Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales No. 21 machine up scratch on the field in his heat race.
Getting involved in a heat race tangle, Tarlton would finish in the fourth spot with a damaged rear suspension. With no qualifying time, the Easton, CA driver would line the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino/Pabco Gypsum/Bandy and Associates backed entry up in the 21st position for the 30-lap A main event.
Showing he had a very strong car in the early laps of the feature event, Tarlton would make his way up to the 12th spot by the 10th lap, but another incident would see him suffer damage to his right front tire, and he would be forced to make a trip to the work area.
Able to restart from the tail end of the field, Tarlton ran a very strong 20-laps as he was able to work his way through the field and salvage an eventful night with a sixth place finish.
“It was a wild night,” Tarlton said. “I can’t remember being involved in something every time I hit the track, but I am fortunate I have a great team behind me who never quit.”
