Eventful Tri-City Trip for Paul Nienhiser

PETERSEN MEDIA: Friday night was a night that Paul Nienhiser tried to forget before even pulling his rig out of Tri-City Speedway. Between burnt off tires, and bent racecar parts, the Chapin, IL driver is already focused on a MOWA double header this weekend.

“We had one of those nights that you would just like to soon forget,” Paul Nienhiser said. “Between rubber, and wrecked parts it was just one of those nights.”

With a slew of events taking place at Tri-City Speedway during the week as the track hosted events in conjunction with NASCAR’s return to St. Louis, MO, rubber down track conditions would greet the field of Sprint Cars for their hot lap session.

Getting a get couple of laps in outside of the rubber, the Chapin, IL driver lined up sixth in his heat race aboard the CAM2 Lubricants/Buffalo Wild Wings/Innovative Designs backed No. 9x. Rubber conditions would see the driver burn off two rear tires as he fought his way up to third.

Getting out of the rubber, trying to make a move, Nienhiser would slip back to fifth at the stripe which would force him into the ‘B’. The 10-lap ‘B’ would see Nienhiser start and finish third, but would prove detrimental as he continued to use up tires.

Making the show, Nienhiser would opt to leave his burnt off tires on as he lined up 21st on the starting grid. The start of the race saw a fellow competitor climb over his front end and bent the front axle and ripped the nose wing off of Nienhiser’s entry.

Still opting to remain on the racing surface, contact from the rear from another car resulted in Nienhiser going to the work area so his team could assess the damage. Putting two tires on his car, he returned only to see a car crash in front of him.

With another car getting on the binders extremely quick, Nienhiser would climb the car’s left rear and finish off his battered front end and bring his night to an end.

“It was definitely not our finest hour, but I have to thank all of my guys for all of their hard work even though we have nothing to show for it,” Nienhiser added.

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Lubricants, Buffalo Wild Wings, Innovative Design, Mason Sound, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Signature Signs & Design, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, American Rental Center, Fierce Herbicide, Guse’s Pub & Eatery, Wessler Bros Agency, Willhite Mowing, T&K Tree Services, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Midland Performance, Simpson Race Products, Smith Titanium, and Premier Powder Coating for their continued support.

Nienhiser would also like to thank Midland Performance, Kinney Racing Engines, Rockstar Wraps, Heartland Trailer Manufacturing, Robert’s Tire Center, and Stronghurst Collision for their support of the No. 50 car.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-5, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-3

ON TAP: Nienhiser will be in action with MOWA twice this weekend as he will be at Jacksonville Speedway on Friday and at FALS in Fairbury, IL on Saturday.
