PETERSEN MEDIA- Making his first start at the ½ mile Calistoga Speedway in several years, Greg DeCaires would shake off some early rust and race his way into the feature event after being forced into the ‘C’ main after heat races.
“It took a little while to catch back on and get up to speed on the ½ mile, but I have to thank everyone for keeping the faith and working hard,” Greg DeCaires said.
Qualifying within heat race groups per SCCT format, DeCaires would time the Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic/Thompson’s Auto Center/RedHawk Casino backed No. 4sa in fifth fastest in his group, placing him in the third row of his heat race.
Chasing after Cory Eliason for the final transfer position into the feature event, DeCaires could not get to fourth and his fifth place finish would force him into the ‘C’ Main.
Continuing to work on the NAAKE Suspension/A.R.T./King Racing Products machine, the Elk Grove, CA driver would extend his night by way of his second place finish in the ‘C’, and he would find himself at the tail end of the 12-lap “B”.
Lining up 18th, DeCaires would come alive in the semi. Laying down some great laps on the big ½ mile, he would work his way up to the seventh position, which would be good enough to transfer into the 24-car, 30-lap Dirt Classic feature event.
Taking the green flag from the 23rd starting position, passing would prove to be tough on the slick ½ mile speedway. Able to pick up a few positions during the feature, the veteran shoe would finish in the 19th position.
“We got a ton of laps in on Saturday and that helped,” DeCaires added. “We ran through the “C”, the “B”, and made it into the feature and turned in some nice laps. I have to thank my guys for their works, and everyone at El Dorado Hills Landscaping for their hospitality.”
