PETERSEN MEDIA- After tangling with another car while battling in the lead pack of cars on Saturday night, Greg DeCaires and the Dale Miller Motorsports team were still able to bounce back and record a Top-10 finish.
With 30 cars checked into the pit area on Saturday night as part of the track’s Fan Appreciation night, DeCaires would go out near the tail end of time trials. With not much grip left on the ¼ mile speedway, the Elk Grove, CA driver would get everything he could as he timed the Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic/Thompson’s Auto Center/RedHawk Casino No. 4sa machine in fourth fastest in time trials.
Unseasonably cool June weather on Saturday night would make for an unusual late sprint surface in the foothills as the night forged ahead. Lining up in the second row of his heat race, DeCaires would finish fourth, and by way of his qualifying efforts he would qualify for the nightly redraw.
Pulling the three pill, DeCaires and company would look to be a heavy favorite to contend for their third win of the season at the famous bullring. Following track prep, DeCaires would settle into the third spot when things got underway as he chased after Steven Tiner and Cody Lamar who ran ahead of him.
With an early caution bunching the field up, the restart would get a little tight and it would see DeCaires and another competitor tangle in turns one and two. Able to keep his machine fired as the field missed him, DeCaires would shuffle back to the 11th spot when he got back up to speed.
A bit of a tricky surface would make position tough to make up, but the veteran driver was extremely patient as he worked his way back forward. In the end, DeCaires would close his night out with an eighth place finish.
