PETERSEN MEDIA- 2014 Placerville Speedway Champion, Greg DeCaires is proving to be a strong contender for the 2015 track championship, as he picked up his fourth straight podium finish on Saturday night, as he came across the finish line second.
With 25 cars in the pit are for the third night of Championship point racing at the Placerville Speedway, DeCaires got his night off to a great start as he timed the Dale Miller Plumbing and Septic/Foothill 7 TV/Redhawk Casino backed No. 4sa entry in fastest during qualifying time trials.
From the back of his heat race, the Elk Grove, CA driver was able to overcome the greasy track conditions, as he would finish second in his heat, and move directly into the night’s feature event.
Lining up in the third row for the feature event by way of pulling the six in the redraw, DeCaires was shot out of a cannon as the race came to life, as he quickly worked his way to the second spot, as he chased after Jimmy Trulli.
With the track choppy in turns one and two, passing got dicey, but the veteran driver would tip toe the surface, as he put pressure on the leader. With caution flags falling as the leader would approach traffic, slower cars would not come into play on this night, and DeCaires would be unable to do anything with Trulli, as he crossed the stripe with a second place finish.
“Our night got off to a great start, as I shocked everyone by setting fast time in time trials,” DeCaries said. “We had a good car in the heat, and were able to get through and get back in the redraw. It was a tough track to make passes on, but we were able to get up to the front early, and chase after Jimmy Trulli. I tried some different things to catch him, but he did a heck of a job, and I congratulate him and his team.”
