PETERSEN MEDIA- Tony Gualda and C&M Motorsports worked hard all night on Saturday. Going out early in time trials on a track that got better as the session moved along, Gualda would ultimately charge from the 17th starting position and come away with a ninth place finish.
“We went out pretty early in time trials, which wasn’t ideal as the track continued to get better,” Gualda said. “My guys continued to work on our car as the track stayed pretty fast and we ended up getting a Top-10.”
Timing the PitStopUSA/Autism Awareness/Moorefield Construction No. 7C machine in 18th quickest in time trials, Gualda would advance from fifth to fourth in his heat race and earn a direct transfer to the feature event.
With the track continuing to hold moisture and stay hooked up, the C&M Motorsports team went to work on their KPC Chassis in preparations for the 25-lap feature event.
Lining up in the 17th starting position on the ‘Cowboy Up’ type surface, the Hollister, CA youngster proved to be up for the challenge as he fought hard from the ninth row.
Laying down the hammer aboard the Pacific Highway Rentals/PT Shocks/51 Fifty Energy machine, Gualda would take advantage of a couple of timely restarts as he worked forward.
Getting into the Top-10 late, Gualda would take the checkered flag in the ninth position.
“I really have to thank the guys for continuing to work on this newer car,” Tony Gualda said. “I think we all left Saturday night happy with the direction we are heading, and hopefully now we can just work on the little adjustments and fine tune it.”
