PETERSEN MEDIA- After making the feature during his first appearance at Calistoga Speedway Saturday night with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Tony Gualda and the C&M Motorsports team would end their weekend with a sixth place finish on Sunday night in Petaluma, CA.
“Saturday night it was a lot of fun to get on a big track, and I feel like I learned a lot too,” Tony Gualda said. “I didn’t get the finish I personally wanted, but I have to thank Cody and Darin for working with me all night long.”
Getting his first laps on the ½ mile speed plant nestled in the heart of the Napa Valley, Gualda would time in fifth fastest in his qualifying group which would line the Pit Stop USA/Autism Awareness/Moorefield Construction No. 7c up in the third row of his heat race.
Finishing sixth, the Hollister, CA driver would be forced into the Last Chance Showdown where a fifth place finish would keep his night alive as he advanced into the feature event.
Lining up in the 21st starting position, passing would prove to be tough on the ultra slick ½ mile speedway. Racing with the likes of Steven Tiner, Greg DeCaires and Colton Slack, Gualda would find himself stuck in the back of the pack.
Getting comfortable by the lap, the young Hollister, CA driver would end up finishing in the 20th spot.
Sunday night saw Gualda and company check in at Petaluma Speedway as the track hosted its first ever ‘Fair Night’ race. With 21 360’s checked in, Gualda would time the PT Shocks entry in ninth fastest in time trials.
Picking up the win in his heat race, Gualda would move into the Dash. Getting involved in a ‘tommy tip over’, Gualda would be credited with an eighth place finish and would line up in the fourth row for the 25-lap feature event.
On a hooked up and hammer down Petaluma Speedway surface, passing would be tough as all cars were at top speed on this night. Able to pick up a couple positions aboard the Swartz Diesel/Pacific Highway Rentals/51Fifty Energy Drink machine, Gualda would close his weekend out with a sixth place finish.
“Sunday night we were fast and had a good night,” Gualda added. “The track was pretty locked down, so it was tough to gain positions, but we made the best of it and finished sixth.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank PitStopUSA, Autism Awareness, Pacific Highway Rentals, Moorefield Construction, Inc., PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, 51 Fifty Energy Drink, Alturas Tires, and Velocity Race Gear and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
