PETERSEN MEDIA- Following a part failure during Friday night’s feature event in Chico, CA, Tony Gualda would come back on Saturday night and fight back from an opening lap incident to finish fifth during the Silver Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway.

“We really had a fast racecar all weekend long, and I have to thank Cody for giving me such a strong racecar,” Tony Gualda said.

Kicking the two-day event off on Friday night, Gualda would kick his 2018 season off by timing the Moorefield Construction, Inc./Hollister Auto Parts/PitStopUSA backed No. 7c entry in fourth fastest in time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Hollister, CA youngster would pocket a fourth place finish which moved him into the redraw where a five pill put him in the third row.

When the green lights flashed on, Gualda would get off to a nice start as he looked to make some early progress, however his night would be cut short as a mechanical failure would see him slow to a stop on the second lap and bring his night to an early end.

Making repairs during the day Saturday, Gualda and C&M Motorsports returned to the track Saturday night looking for some better luck, and things started off well for the Lincoln, CA based team as Gualda again timed in fourth fastest.

Finising third in his heat race on this night, Gualda would mirror his Friday night draw and again pull the five, which put him in the third row for the 30-lap finale.

When the green flag was displayed to the field, Gualda would mash the throttle and would soon catch a rut and bicycle his machine which forced him to the work area and then to the back of the pack.

From the back the Hollister, CA driver put on an absolute show. Driving with confidence and a heavy right foot, the youngster would make up ground in a hurry as he worked his way back inside the Top-10 by lap 11.

Continuing to work for more, Gualda was able to get by some stout competition as he began battling for a spot inside the Top-five with 10 laps remaining in the race.

As the laps clicked down, Gualda would move into fifth on a lap 28 restart, and he would successfully complete his run from 22nd to fifth to close out his Silver Cup.

“In the feature Saturday night I could roll the bottom, and make the top work,” he explained. “Our car was awesome, and I am really excited for the year ahead with Cody and Mandi.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., Hollister Auto Parts, PitStopUSA, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, 51 Fifty Energy Drink, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: C&M Motorsports and Tony Gualda are scheduled to return to action on March 24th at Placerville Speedway for the track’s weekly season opener.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-2, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-1.
