PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in Marysville Raceway’s regular season finale on Saturday night, Dawson Hammes appeared to be on his way to his second victory of the season until a mechanical failure forced him to give up the lead with just three laps left in the race.
“We were fast all night long and had a good lead late in the feature,” Dawson Hammes said. “Unfortunately we had a part fail with three laps left in the ‘A’ and it caused our engine to shut off and it ended our night.”
Timing the Movement Brewing/STS Farming/All About Fire Protection backed No. 55D in eighth fastest in qualifying time trials, Hammes lined up on the front row of his heat race.
Needing the win to guarantee himself a spot in the nightly redraw, the Marysville, CA driver got the jump when the race came to life and never looked back. Powering his way to the win, Hammes was locked into the redraw where his one pill put him on the pole of the 25-lapper.
With the waiving of the green flag, Hammes was shot out of a rocket as he quickly began setting a torrid pace around the ¼ mile that he competed at weekly in 2023.
By the 10th lap, Hammes had opened nearly a straightway lead, and was busy working his way through the back of the field.
As the laps continued to click off, Hammes appeared to be on his way to his second win of the season until bad luck struck on the 23rd lap.
With his motor shutting off, Hammes relinquished the lead and his night came to a disappointing end.
“It was good to be that strong all night,” Hammes said. “I wish we could have finished it off and grabbed a win, but it wasn’t in the cards. Thanks to my parents, Carson, Ally, and Cody for all of their help. I am really excited for Gold Cup in a couple of weeks.”
Hammes Motorsports would like to thank Movement Brewing, STS Farming, All About Fire Protection, Summit Partners Burbank Agency, Harper Inc., and Ace Attorney Services for their continued support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 17, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 7, Top 10’s: 12
