PETERSEN MEDIA: With 2015 kicking off during the Winter Heat Showdown at the Cocopah Speedway, Van Dyke Motorsports and driver, Dakota Hendrickson continue to get comfortable with each other as they kicked off what will be a very busy year.

Kicking things off last Friday night, the young Omaha, NE driver shared the front row of his heat race with Steve Kinser. Following a red on the initial start, Hendrickson would settle into the second spot, where he would finish, before finishing fifth in his qualifier.

Lining up 15th in the feature event, Hendrickson held his own against some of the biggest names in the sport, as he continued to learn the Cocopah Speedway. Continuing to hit his marks aboard the Lucas Oil/K&N Products/JRI Shocks backed No. 5h machine, Hendrickson would tally a 14th place finish.

“It was a really great way to start our season out,” Hendrickson said. “We came down and made the feature event our first night out, and really have ourselves something to work with.”

Back in action last Saturday night, Hendrickson’s night did not go quite as planned.

Finishing fifth in his heat race, Hendrickson got into some trouble during his qualifier, that saw him get into the wall, and cause some damage that brought his night to an early end.

“I made a mistake in the qualifier, and it knocked us out of the race for the rest of the night. Huge thanks to Harley and Fez for working so hard,” he added.

With a couple of days off, the Van Dyke Motorsports team was back in action on Tuesday night. Starting and finishing eighth in his heat race, Hendrickson would score a seventh place finish in his qualifier.

With his point totals, Hendrickson would line up 12th in the B main, needing to work into the top-eight to keep his night going. Working around the extremely slick speedway, Hendrickson would get up to the 10th spot, coming up just short of a feature event berth.

“I just need to figure out how to make up ground in heat races and qualifiers,” he said. “This place is really fast, and passing cars is tough. Hopefully we can draw good this weekend, and put ourselves in a little  bit better position. Harley and Fez are working hard, and I really need to thank them.”

The Van Dyke Motorsports team would like to thank Lucas Oil,  K&N Products, JRI Shocks, NAAKE Suspension, FSR Radiators, for their support during the year.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 3, Wins-0, Top-5’s-0, Top-10’s-0
