Henry Charges Through Forni Field to Fifth Place Finish

PETERSEN MEDIA: Looking to add his name to the list of repeat winners of the Mark Forni Classic, Kalib Henry would come up short of his goal but still put on a show as he charged his way forward from 18th to a 5th place finish on Saturday night in Placerville, CA.

“We had really good speed all night, but unfortunately a stumble in our engine hindered us on a late restart in our heat race and it forced us into the ‘B’,’ Henry said. “We raced into the ‘A’, and with the help of a few cautions we used restarts to our advantage and charged to a fifth-place finish.”

With a total of 43 cars packed into the Placerville Speedway pit area, Henry got off to a strong start as the defending winner of the Mark Forni Classic as he timed the McColloch’s RV/Davis Truck Painting/Driven Homes Inc. backed No. 17 in third fastest in time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Henry ran in the fourth and final transfer position until a late yellow changed the complexion of his night. Fighting a stumble on starts, Henry would see Kaleb Montgomery power around him and drop him back to fifth and knock him out of the feature.

Finding himself on the pole of one of the twin ‘B’ Mains, Henry still had a great shot to race his way into the feature. Getting the jump, Henry set sail and raced to a commanding win and punched his ticket into the 25-lap feature event where he would be slated to take the green flag from the 18th starting spot.

On the slick surface, Henry had his elbows up as he went to battle on the bullring as he worked his way through heavy traffic in what was a fast moving feature event.

With a couple of restarts sprinkled throughout the 25-lap affair, Henry would make most up a lot of ground on restarts as he quickly worked through the Top-10. Battling with Colby Copeland and Landon Brooks late in the race, Henry took over the fifth spot where he would go on to close out his race.

“We kept tinkering on the engine and got it really good for the feature,” Henry added. “Restarts were good to us, and those yellows helped the engine stay cool. I wanted to get another Forni, but coming through the field like that was fun.”

McColloch Motorsports would like to thank McColloch’s RV Repair, Davis Truck Painting, Driven Homes, Inc., ART Speed Equipment, Hansen Machine, Rockstar Services, and Gary Morgan Graphics for their continued support.
