PETERSEN MEDIA- Two King of the West were on tap over the weekend for Kyle Hirst and the Tarlton Motorsports team, and after two hard fought feature events the Paradise, CA driver would extend his series points lead on the strength of two runner up finishes.
“It is tough to finish second on back to back nights only in the sense that we want to be one spot better, but we had awesome racecars all weekend,” Kyle Hirst said. “Sunday night was an absolute blast battling for the win in Stockton, and I have to thank this team for all of their hard work.”
Checking in at the Stockton Dirt Track for a rare Sunday evening program, Kyle Hirst and his Tarlton Motorsports were in search of their third win of the 2016 season. Timing the Roth Motorsports/Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc. backed No. 21x machine in fifth fastest, Hirst would battle with Jonathan Allard for the heat race win only to finish in the second spot.
Earning a spot in the Dash, the Paradise, CA resident would find himself with the six pill, and after gridding the field from the third row for the six-lap shootout, Hirst would finish third and improve his feature event starting spot by three positions.
With cautions waiving on the initial start of the race and with one lap in the books, Hirst would take advantage of the restart and power his way into the race lead as he got by Justin Cox. Quickly opening up a healthy lead, Hirst would have company in the name of Cory Eliason by the sixth lap.
Falling back to the second spot, Hirst would see Eliason get away from him but the two-time series champion would not give up. A restart on the 10th lap would see the duo break away from the field, but Hirst was still a few lengths back of the leader.
As the leaders got into traffic by the 16th lap, the battle for the lead intensified and Hirst would begin battling with Eliason for the top spot. On the 21st lap Hirst would grab the top spot, and the duo would exchange the top spot corner after corner until Eliason got back to the point on the 23rd lap.
With Eliason breaking away, Hirst would take one final shot at the leader on the last lap, but would come up just short and finish in the second spot.
Hirst and company were also in action on Saturday night at the Keller Auto Speedway. Timing in sixth fastest during time trails, KH would pick up the heat race win and punch his ticket into the Dash where a fifth place finish would place him in the third row for the feature event.
On a very slick surface, Hirst would battle within the Top-Five during the duration of the race. Getting up as high as the second spot, Hirst would fall back to fourth at one point during the race. Using a late restart to his advantage, Hirst would power his way into the second spot where he would finish.
“We have been so consistent night in and night out, it has really been fun to work with this Tarlton Motorsports team,” Hirst added. “Were right there, and hopefully we can continue to be right there and I can get the job done on the track for everyone.”
Kyle Hirst and the Tarlton Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Motorsports, Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, Corporate America Investments, and BG Lubricants for their support through the 2016 season.
ON TAP: Kyle Hirst and the Tarlton Motorsports team will be at the Ocean Speedway on Saturday night for the sixth annual Howard Kaeding Classic.
