PETERSEN MEDIA- Making some additions to his team over the last week, Shane Hopkins was pleased with how his first night out with new Crew Chief, Jeremy Dubois, went as they picked up a 9thplace finish on Saturday night.
“We brought Jeremy Dubois on board this week and it made a pretty big difference I thought,” Hopkins said. “We ended up ninth but we were a little better than that I thought. A couple on track incidents kind of dictated the finish, but I was really happy with the speed.”
Timing the High Sierra Industries/ARP/ADCO backed No. 21 machine in seventh quickest in qualifying time trials, the Placerville, CA driver would race his way to a second place finish in his heat race.
With things shuffling out in his favor, Hopkins would qualify for the redraw where the seven pill placed him in the fourth row to start the 25-lap finale.
As the race came to life, Hopkins made some nice moves during the early goings of the feature event as he was able to break into the Top-Five and get up to fourth at one point in the race.
A double-file restart would see Hopkins get leaned on a little bit and it would force him off the track surface and over the cushion in turns three and four as he gave up some positions as he got back into the racing groove.
Unable to quite get all of the position back, Hopkins would get back into the Top-10 and cap his night off with a ninth place finish.
“It definitely was a good start for us as a team,” Hopkins said. “Looking forward to coming up on Wednesday night at seeing what we can do with our 360ci engine against the 410ci guys.”
