PETERSEN MEDIA- Looking to make some noise at the Jackson Nationals last weekend in Jackson, MN, Ian Madsen and KCP Racing would have a long weekend that has them poised and hungry as they head to North Dakota this weekend.
“Last week was a tough week,” Ian Madsen said. “We have had sort of an up and down season in these first 30-races and we are all poised and focused on turning this around and getting our car up front for all of our partners and everyone associated with this team.”
A busy week of racing kicked off last week in Fairbury, IL for Madsen and company. Racing into the feature event, a couple of incidents would end Madsen’s night due to damage on the 20th lap as the team then turned it’s focus to the AGCO Jackson Nationals.
Thursday’s event would be postponed to Saturday afternoon, so Friday night would officially open up the marquee event. Timing the Logan Contractors Supply Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 machine in third fastest in his qualifying flight, Madsen would finish second and make his way into the all-important Dash.
Lining up sixth in the Dash, Madsen would finish in the same position and line up in the third row for the opening night feature event. With heavy rain in the area the night before, the Jackson Motorplex surface would stay extremely fast all night long and passing would be at a premium during the opener.
Staying inside the Top-10 all race long, Madsen would have a good Jackson Nationals points night by way of his 10th place finish as the team would then start preparing for Saturday’s double-header.
Timing in 10th fastest during the day show on Saturday, Madsen would end up finishing eighth in his heat race which put him in the programs “B” Main with the likes of David Gravel, Donny Schatz, and Kraig Kinser where his fourth place finish would move him into the feature event.
Lining up 24th in the afternoon feature event, Madsen would make up some ground and accumulate some valuable points for the finale later that night as he was able to work around the newly configured Jackson Motorplex and finish 16th, which placed him 14th in the event standings heading into the final night of competition.
Finding himself in the second row of his heat race, Madsen would finish fourth which successfully locked him into the 40-lap $40,000-to-win feature event where he would take the green flag from the 18th starting position.
When the race came to life, Madsen would sail into turn one where his car would bicycle and he would get into the turn one wall and it would bring his night to an early end.
“It was unfortunate to have our week end like that,” Madsen added. “The guys worked hard, it was a long couple of days and then to make the show and crash on the start is brutal. It was a great event, and we all certainly thank Tod Quiring and everyone involved for building that event up and hopefully next time we can fight fo the win. I have a great team and a little adversity and a rough weekend isn’t going to slow us down. We will continue to work hard and we will have a great weekend coming up.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Team Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Bobcat, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Revolution Race Gear, Monarch’s, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
