PETERSEN MEDIA- Jonathan Allard put on quite the charge on Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway, as he thrilled the crowd charging from his 13th starting position to finish in the fourth spot.
“It was a great result to what started out as a tough night,” Allard said. “The track wasn’t the greatest to pass on, but my guys worked hard and we put a bit of a charge on.”
With 34 cars on hand for the 9th Annual Mark Forni Classic, the Chico, CA driver timed his Tri-C Manufacturing/K&N/Redline Oil backed No. 3C machine in 10th fastest, putting himself on the front row of his heat race.
Looking to grab the win, and move into the dash, Allard was called for a false start in his heat race, and he was put back a row. Getting into the second spot, Allard chased down leader, Andy Forsberg, but came up short, as his second place finish put him in the feature, though it put him in the seventh row.
On a track that stayed fast on the bottom, and kept moisture through the night, passing was at a premium, but Allard was persistent in his efforts.
When the race went green, Allard had a great start on the bottom of turns one and two, as he quickly moved into the eighth spot, where he ran when the caution flew on the sixth lap.
Taking advantage of numerous double file restarts, Allard would get up as high as the third spot, as much of the race was spent battling with Colby Wiesz, Steven Tiner, and Justin Sanders.
In the closing laps, Allard would battle with second running Shane Golobic, but a lap 27 red bunched the field up one last time, and Allard would slip to fourth where he would go on to finish.
“We were pretty good on restarts, and that is how we made up a lot of ground,” he said. “The bottom stayed too good, even though we had a really nice cushion. I tried to gain ground that way (the top) a few times but it was just too far around. I have to thank the Lamar’s and my guys for all of their support and hard work.”
