PETERSEN MEDIA- Checking in at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA for the Faria Memorial with the USAC West Coast 360 Series, Jace Vander Weerd would finish ninth when the dust settled on the feature event.

“It wasn’t the greatest night for us, but we were able to pick up a Top-10,” Jace Vander Weerd said.

Opening his night up by timing the Mid-Valley Pipe/Basic Industries/SWE backed sprinter in seventh fastest in qualifying time trials, Vander Weerd would line up in the second row of his heat race.

On a slippery Thunderbowl Raceway surface, Vander Weerd would finish in the third spot, which placed him in the second row for the 30-lap Faria Memorial ‘A’ Main event.

Running in the second spot during the race’s opening laps by way of the bottom, Vander Weerd would make a slight mistake in turns one and two that would see him lose a few positions.

Trying to run the high line on the next lap, it would not work out for the Visalia, CA driver as he lost a couple of more positions and now ran in seventh. Opting to get back down to the bottom, Vander Weerd would hold down the seventh position as laps clicked off with the majority of feeling running nose to tail.

Late in the race, Vander Weerd would see a few drivers making the high side work, and he would opt to give it a try himself. Unable to get it right, he would lose a couple more positions and finish the race in the ninth spot.

“Moving up to the top early in the race was a bad call on my part because the bottom was too good,” Vander Weerd said. “I tried it again late in the race, and I just wasn’t good enough pass. It wasn’t a great night, but at Tulare it could have certainly been a lot worse.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2017.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-12, Wins-0, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-8.
