PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night in Hanford, CA, Jace Vander Weerd had a strong that saw him record his season best finish of fifth with the USAC/CRA Series in what was the final night of CA Sprint Week 2017.

“It was a great night, and the track ended up being a lot more racy than I thought it would be,” Jace Vander Weerd said. “We had an even better than where we finish, but I was happy to get our best finish of the year in the 410.”

Going out early in time trials with a little grease still on the racing surface, Jace Vander Weerd got his night kicked off by timing the FK Rod Ends/PXP Racewear machine in 11th quickest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up third in his heat race, getting into a little grease at the start of the race, Vander Weerd would slip back and end up finishing in the fifth position.

Moving along to the 30-lap feature event, Vander Weerd would take the green flag from the 11th starting position aboard the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Mid-Valley Pipe entry.

Falling back to 13th initially, Vander Weerd took a liking to the bottom groove and was able to make up some ground as he patiently picked cars off. When the race’s first caution flew on the 23rd lap, Vander Weerd found himself in the eighth spot, but would look for more when the green lights returned.

Back underway, the Visalia, CA driver had a huge run that saw him work his way up into the fifth spot on the initial restart, but the caution would be displayed and his efforts would be negated.

Not having quite as good as a restart when the race finally resumed, Vander Weerd continued to be patient and was able to work his way forward to the fifth spot at the checkered flag.

“We had a really good car, and I think if I could have timed in better and started up front we would have been in the mix with those guys,” Vander Weerd added. “Like I said, it was a great night and I have to thank everyone involved with our team.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2017.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-21, Wins-0, Top 5’s-8, Top 10’s-12.
