PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking on the USAC West Coast 360 Series at the Keller Auto Speedway on Saturday night, a hooked up racing surface would make passing a bit challenging on this night as Jace Vander Weerd would finish in the seventh spot.

“We were a little off in time trials and did well in our heat race, but passing was really tough in the A Main,” Jace Vander Weerd said. “I actually ran out of tear offs late in the race, so I had to back off and just ride the final laps out.”

Timing in seventh fastest during qualifying time trials with the USAC West Coast 360 Series, Jace Vander Weerd would take advantage of his front row starting position in the first heat race and pick up the win aboard his Mid-Valley Pipe/Basic Industries/Steve Watt Enterprises backed No. 88v machine.

A well-prepared Keller Auto Speedway would stay in good shape all night long, and as a result passing would be at a premium during the 30-lap A Main event. From his fourth row starting position, Vander Weerd would settle into the sixth position as he chased after Shannon McQueen during much of the race.

With everyone just about the same speed, Vander Weerd would wait for McQueen to make a mistake to move into the Top-Five but it would not play out as he hoped. Late in the race, Vander Weerd would use all of his visor tear off’s and with limited visibility he would back off and let Tristan Guradino by late in the race as he fell back to to the seventh spot where he ended up finishing.

“The guys have been trying hard on the track all year and it was really good, too good really, but it was smooth,” Vander Weerd said. “I thought we had a good car, but passing was tough. Hopefully when we come back in two-weeks it still in good shape, but hopefully a larger car count in all divisions will help it widen out.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Raceway and K&N for their support in 2015.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-26, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-17.

ON TAP: Jace will take this weekend off before retuning to action on Friday, August 14th at the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA for a night of winged racing, and on Saturday, August 15th for a night on non-winged racing with the USAC/CRA Series in Lake Perris, CA.
