PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night at the Keller Auto Speedway, Jace Vander Weerd put together a very strong performance that saw him score his first win of the 2015 season, as he led all 30-laps to win the Sixth Annual Jim Evett Memorial.

“It was a great weekend,” Jace Vander Weerd said. “I knew the bottom was going to be really good, so I was focused on hitting my marks and running smooth laps, and forcing someone to pass me on the outside if they could.”

Timing the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx No. 88 machine in sixth fastest during qualifying time trials, the Visalia, CA driver would race his way to a fourth place finish, putting him on the pole for the 30-lap A Main.

When the race got underway, Vander Weerd quickly began working the bottom of the speedway as Mike Spencer and Danny Faria ran in his wake. With cautions bunching the field back up on a few occasions, Vander Weerd would let Spencer challenge him at times on restarts, but was able to get back in his rhythm, and pull away from the field.

A caution with two laps to go, gave Vander Weerd’s challengers one file shot to take over the top spot, but after getting a little tight and pushing up the race track getting into turns one and two, Vander Weerd was able to pull away down the back stretch, as he went on to lead the final two laps, and earn the extra $3000 of lap money that was on the line as he captured the win.

“There was a couple of times I would get out of my rhythm and it would let those guys get close to me,” Vander Weerd said. “I was able to calm down, and get going again and we were able to end up on top. I really have to thank my crew for giving me a great car, and my family for continuing to support me race after race.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2015.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-33, Wins-1, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-20.

ON TAP: Jace will take return to racing this Friday night at the Keller Auto Speedway for the final Duinkerken Farms King of Kings 360 event of the season, before getting back to work with the USAC West Coast 360’s on Saturday night at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA.
