Jason Solwold Finishes Fifth in Trophy Cup Standings

PETERSEN MEDIA- Making the tow down to Tulare, CA to take part in the 23rd Annual Trophy Cup, Jason Solwold and the Shaylen Raye Motorsports team had a very strong weekend that saw the team end up fifth in the final Trophy Cup standings.

“We had a really good car all weekend long, and I think that showed in our results,” Solwold said. “We fought back after getting in a wreck on Thursday night and raced well every time we hit the track.”

Laying down a very strong lap during his Thursday night qualifying run, Solwold would time in second fastest in his flight before racing his way to a second place finish from the third row of his heat race.

Moving into the feature, Solwold would grid the field from the 10th starting spot as he sat third in points after time trials and heat races. In the opening stages of the feature event, Solwold would find himself in the Top-10 until contact from another car caused some damage to his machine and forced him to the work area.

From the back of the pack, Solwold would get to work on the extremely slick Thunderbowl Raceway as he worked his way back up to finish in the 13th spot.

Timing in second fastest again in his qualifying flight on Friday night, Solwold would finish fourth in his heat on this night and again transfer directly to the night’s 30-lap feature

event.

Lining up in the fourth starting spot, the Burlington, WA driver would quickly move into the third spot on a surface that was extremely fast and narrow after track prep prior to the ‘A’.

Chasing after Terry McCarl and Michael Kofoid, Solwold would take over the second spot when McCarl spun with just six-laps left in the feature event. With two restarts to try and get around Kofoid, Solwold would settle for a second place finish and look forward to Saturday night.

Sitting third in the overall standings heading into Saturday’s finale, Solwold’s seventh place finish in his heat race would see him slip to seventh in points heading into the feature event and lined him up on the outside of the seventh row.

From his 14th starting position, Solwold would get off to a slow start as he battled with other top point earners who were also starting at the back of the pack with the way the feature was inverted.

Sitting in 15th when the scheduled stoppage came on the 35th lap, Solwold would get a great restart that saw him jump up into the 10th spot.

Sitting in 10th when the final yellow waived on the 41st lap, Solwold would grab a couple more spots as he jumped up to the eighth spot. Running out of time, Solwold would finish in the eighth spot and end his weekend fifth in Trophy Cup points.

“It was good to get back to Tulare, and have some fun at Trophy Cup,” Jason Solwold said. “We had a solid weekend, and it was great to finish fifth in the points. It was the best I have ever done at that race, and I think we could have been even better if we didn’t struggle in our heat race. I have to thank everyone who hand their hands on this thing all week.”

Solwold and the Shaylen Raye Motorsports team would like to thank Scottie’s Plumbing, NW Team Excavating, KarMart Motorsports, Doyle Guffie’s Rayle Auto Sales, Pops Entertainment, Vic’s 66, Speedmart, After Hours Painting, Triple X Race Co., Al Parker Race Engines, Wings Unlimited, Slade Shocks, Rob Graham Trucking, Wings Unlimited, Meyer Sings, Vahlco Wheels, Fuel Safe, and Pro Signs for their continued support.
