PETERSEN MEDIA: After cutting his teeth in BMX Racing, JJ Bright decided to move to motorsports in 2017, and ran his rookie season piloting a non-wing 600 micro. With the Tulsa Shootout coming and going, Bright’s rookie campaign came to a close with a respectable showing.
Coming into his rookie season in motorsports, Bright a Championship pedigree with him as he was able to pick off four consecutive titles in the American Bike Association, and the National Bike League and just 13 years of age.
Moving into Micro Sprints in 2017, the 13-year old would climb aboard a non-wing 600 and take his lumps initially. As the season moved on, Bright proved to be a quick study as he got more comfortable race by race.
Continuing to come into his own behind the wheel, Bright made the trek to Tulsa, OK to take part in the Tulsa Shootout, a marquee stage for Micro Sprint drivers.
Bright competed in both the Outlaw Non-Wing Class as well as the Stock Non Wing Class, and found a little more success with the stock division.
Lining up seventh in his Stock NW heat race, Bright was able to make some moves on the racy Tulsa Expo Raceway and work his way to a third place finish.
Sitting in the Top-30 in points heading into his qualifier, Bright looked for another strong run to punch his ticket into the feature event. Lining up on the pole, Bright would find himself in the second position until a caution slowed the field.
The restart would see Bright get pushed around a little and he would lose some track position and fall back to an 11th place finish.
Moving into a ‘B’ Main, Bright would line up 11th and pick up a couple of positions on the speedway and end his Tulsa Shootout with the Stock NW division with a ninth place finish in his “B”.
Outlaw Non Wing Division was a bit of a learning curve for the youngster. Taking on some of the best in the Non Wing Micro Scene, Bright would start and finish eighth in his heat race.
Moving to one of the ‘C’ Main, the rookie pilot would pick up a couple of spots as he advanced to finish seventh after taking the green flag from ninth.
