Joel Myers Jr 10th at Cotton Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: Competing with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Friday night during the Cotton Classic in Hanford, CA, Joel Myers Jr picked up a 10th place finish with the travelling 360ci series before enduring rear-end issues in NARC action on Saturday night which ended his night early.

“We have had a couple weeks of pretty bad luck, but we haven’t given up,” Joel Myers Jr said. “I really have to thank my dad, and Cody for their continued hard work, and everyone else that supports our race team.”

42 cars checked in for Friday’s Cotton Classic with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, and Myers Jr timed in fourth fastest in his qualifying group aboard the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/DirtDudes Excavating backed No. 46jr.

Running fourth in his heat race, Myers Jr transferred into the feature event where he took the green flag from the 16thstarting position. As the feature event came to life, Myers Jr hung in the 15th position for much of the race, as stoppages hindered the race from getting into any sort of flow.

Once the race started clicking off green flag laps, the Sebastopol, CA driver came to life and began working his way forward as he chased after a position in the Top-10.

Racing into ninth as the field took the white flag, one final stoppage hindered the action and put the field in single file formation for a green-white-checkered finish. The final restart of the night saw Myers Jr slip back to 10th where he went on to finish.

Putting the 410ci powerplant in for Saturday night’s KWS/NARC Morrie Williams Tribute, the 16-year-old timed in 19thfastest in time trials. Rolling out for his heat race, Myers Jr would break a rear axle as he got on the gas to do a quick hot lap, and he was forced back to his trailer to make repairs for the ‘B’.

Thrashing to make repairs, Myers Jr was able to make the call, but it would be for not as lingering issues from the damage ended his semi before it got started and brought his weekend to a close.

“It has been a trying couple of weeks, but we will keep plugging away,” Joel Myers Jr said. “We have another opportunity to run Hanford, CA this Friday, and then an opportunity to get some laps in Tulare, CA on Saturday night before Trophy Cup.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 54, Wins-1, Top-5’s- 13, Top-10’s-22

ON TAP: Myers Jr gets right back to work this Friday in Hanford, CA and Saturday night in Tulare, CA in a pair of KWS/NARC events.
