Joel Myers Jr 22nd at Super Dirt Cup

PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to Skagit Speedway over the weekend to take part in Super Dirt Cup, Joel Myers Jr had a tougher weekend than he hoped for and ultimately finished 22nd in the Saturday night ‘A’ Main after receiving the Promotor’s Option into the finale.

“We had confidence heading into Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway after running well at the track back in September,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Unfortunately we were just off a little all week and made for a long weekend. We did get make a little progress during Saturday’s “B”, but in the ‘A’ we just didn’t get going”

Enduring engine issues during time trials during Thursday night’s opener, a thrash to swap engines before heat race action, didn’t allow for Myers and company to make any changes to their car before rolling out for their heat.

Slipping back from the front row on a very slick surface, Myers Jr finished seventh in his heat race before finishing 12th in the ‘B’.

Hoping to make up some lost points from a tough opening night, Friday night Myers was a little better, but still not where he wanted to be. Timing in 29th fastest out of 41, Myers finished third in his heat race and was forced into the ‘B’ Main.

Finishing seventh in the “B”, Myers and company continued to work on the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division backed No. 46JR even with being mired deep in the Saturday night semi.

“Friday night I felt like we were a lot closer to where we needed to be, but we still had some work to do to for a fighting chance and earning a transfer out of Saturday’s B,” Myers Jr added.

Lining up 11th in Saturday’s 20-lap semi, Myers Jr came out swinging on the extremely slick surface. Needing to finish in in the top-six to move into the 40-lapper, Myers Jr was quickly in seventh and fighting hard for the final golden ticket into the Super Dirt Cup A.

Never giving up, Myers Jr was relentless in his efforts but took the checkered flag in seventh.

Last year, the 55 Promotions team implemented two bonus starting spots in the feature, to bump the field to 26. With a fan vote, and a Promotors Option still to be decided, Myers Jr’s B-Main efforts were not for not as he was awarded to Promotor’s Option and was in the show.

Lining up in the 25th starting position, Myers Jr spent the duration of the 40-lapper mired in dense traffic as he searched around the slick Skagit Speedway.

Though unable to make a run through the field, Myers Jr was thankful for the opportunity to compete in the feature as he finished 22nd.

“We had a lot of fun, but we just struggled all week long,” Myers Jr said. “I am extremely thankful that 55 Promotions gave us the Golden Ticket into the feature event but wish we could have been in a little better position all week long. It’s part of it. It is a tough show, and now we will focus on racing back at home. Thank you to everyone who made this whole trip possible.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 27, Wins-7, Top-5’s- 11, Top-10’s-17

ON TAP: Myers Jr will take this weekend off before returning to action on the 4th of July at Placerville Speedway.
