Joel Myers Jr 2nd and 5th with IRA

PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending the last two weeks working for Crouch Motorsports during the Knoxville 360 Nationals and the Knoxville Nationals, Joel Myers Jr returned to racing himself this past weekend and was in fine form as he picked up a second-place finish on Saturday night at Wilmot Raceway before charging from 20th to 5th at Angell Park Speedway on Sunday night.

“I was happy with how our car was the last two nights,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Saturday night we had a winning car, but a late restart saw Bill Balog get by, and he is extremely good at these Wisconsin tracks.”

Saturday night, Myers got his weekend off to a quick start as he timed the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/DirtDudes Excavating backed No. 46JR in fifth fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Sebastopol, CA youngster had his elbows up as he jumped out to the early lead and never looked back. Racing to the win, Myers Jr moved into Dash No. 1 where a win there put him on the pole of the 30-lap feature event.

When the green flag was displayed to the field, Myers Jr was hard on the throttle as he took the early lead and began opening up his advantage.

Working the slick surface to perfection, Myers Jr was in traffic in seemingly no time at all. Slicing and dicing his way through the rear of the field, Myers Jr continued to hold an advantage over IRA heavy, Bill Balog.

Amidst his fast and furious pace, a caution on lap 19 brought the party to a halt and changed the complexion of the race. When the action resumed, Balog was able to get by Myers Jr as he settled into second. Chasing after Balog for the final 11 markers, Myers Jr was unable to get back and challenge for the top spot, but did maintain the runner up position as the checkered flag was displayed do the field.

Lining up 20th on the starting grid for the 30-lap finale, Myers Jr fought hard to work his way forward. Taking over 15thon the second lap, Myers Jr continued to battle as he raced into the Top-10 on 12th lap.
