PETERSEN MEDIA: Moving into the Vertullo Motorsports entry in 2022, Joel Myers Jr made his debut in the new opportunity on Saturday night in Hanford, CA and after working out some opening night bugs, the youngster is looking forward to this weekend’s Silver Cup in Chico, CA.
“It was good to get to Hanford, CA and have a bit of night to test and work out some things,” Joel Myers Jr said. “I am super thankful for the opportunity that Dave and Debbie Vertullo have given me, and I am excited that the season is finally here.”
Timing the Starr Property Management/Morrison Concrete/PitStopUSA backed No. 83V machine in 11th fastest in time trials, Myers Jr would experience a mechanical issue in his heat race that resulted in a DNF.
With the steering issue Myers Jr endured a minor fix, the Sebastopol, CA driver would make the call for the feature event where he would take the green flag from the 14th starting position on a surface that was hooked up and a tough to pass on at times.
Though mired at the back of the pack, Myers Jr would continue to adapt to the new ride as he slowly picked up a couple of spots over the course of the 30-lap race.
Working into 11th just before the halfway point, Myers Jr would take over the 10th spot on the 16th circuit.
Once in 10th, the 15-year-old would chase after Brody Roa and Kaleb Montgomery as he looked to pick up a few more positions late in the race but could never find a passing opportunity.
As the race ended, Myers Jr ended his night with a 10th place finish as the team will now switch gears to 360ci action and take part in this weekend’s Silver Cup in Chico, CA.
“First night out with a new team, and some bugs are natural,” Myers Jr said. “I am glad we had the chance to get a 410ci race in before the KWS season starts in April, and now I am excited to give the 360ci program a shakedown this weekend.”
