PETERSEN MEDIA: After making his debut at Tulare, CA’s Thunderbowl Speedway during October’s Trophy Cup, Joel Myers Jr made a return trip on Saturday night that resulted in a 10th place finish.

“With an opening in the schedule with Vertullo Motorsports, we made kind of a last-minute decision to take the family car to Tulare, CA and race,” Joel Myers Jr said. “It’s kind of a bummer that we couldn’t run with the Outlaws yet, but it was still pretty cool to run alongside them.”

With 24 Kings of Thunder 360’s checked into the pit area, Meyers Jr would time in 12th fastest in qualifying time trials and lined the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/System 1 backed entry up on the front row of his heat race.

When the green flag was displayed, Myers Jr and fellow front row starter, Caden Steele would make contact in turns one and two, and it would result in Myers Jr taking a trip to the work area.

Rejoining the field from the tail, the 15-year-old would race back to sixth place finish which resulted in him taking the green flag from the 16th starting position.

On a racy Thunderbowl surface, ‘Jr’ had his elbows up as he rode the high, scary side of the speedway. With his right-rear tire just inches from the famed Tulare wall, Myers worked his way forward.

Jumping into 12th by the sixth lap, Myers would crack the Top-10 at the halfway point of the fast paced 25-lap affair. Slipping back to 12th, Jr would continue to work hard as he jumped back into 10th on the 23rd lap.

Keeping the position for the final two circuits, Myers Jr closed the night out with a 10th place finish.

“It was really good to get another night under my belt in Tulare, CA,” Myers Jr said. “We don’t get a chance to run their very often, and when we do it’s usually for a big race. I want to thank my guys for their hard work, and all of our partners for helping us get down the road.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 6, Wins-0, Top-5’s- 2, Top-10’s-3

ON TAP: Myers Jr and Vertullo Motorsports will be idle until March 19th when they take part in the Placerville Speedway season opener.
