PETERSEN MEDIA: Making the extremely last-minute decision to head to Marysville Raceway on Saturday night with Placerville Speedway raining out, Joel Myers Jr and the Vertullo Motorsports team had their best outing together yet as Myers pocketed a fourth-place finish.
“Saturday night was the best I have felt in a car in a while, and that has me pretty excited with our season really ramping up now with more tracks coming back to life this weekend,” Joel Myers Jr said.
With 23 cars bracing the elements at Marysville Raceway, Myers Jr timed the Starr Property Management/Morrison Concrete/Hi-Plains Building Division No. 83jr entry in fourth quickest in time trials.
Finishing third in his heat race, the Sebastopol, CA driver would advance into the redraw where the number four would line him up in the second row of the 25-lap feature event.
With extremely hooked up and fast track conditions holding up through the night, passing would be tough at times at Marysville Raceway. Still with a fast car underneath him, Myers Jr would jump into second on the race’s initial start however a yellow flag would negate his efforts.
When the action came to life, the 15-year-old would battle hard in the Top-Five as he raced with the likes of Andy Forsberg, Chase Majdic, and Justin Henry.
Doing what he could in a fast paced 25-lap feature, Myers Jr would fall back to fifth but in the end, picking up his third Top-5 of the season, and first with Vertullo Motorsports, as the team is now set to open the Ocean Speedway’s season on Friday night and the Sprint Car Challenge Tour campaign on Saturday night.
“We stayed inside the Top-5 all night long, and really had a fun night of racing,” Myers said. “I am really looking forward to things picking up schedule wise and can’t wait to get two more shows in this weekend. I really want to thank Dave and Debbie Vertullo, and everyone that continues to help and support our race team.”
