PETERSEN MEDIA: After announcing they he would compete regularly at the Marysville Raceway during the 2015 season, Justin Sanders has left no doubt that he will be a serious championship contender as he landed on his third straight podium at the speedway as he competed with the Civil War Series.

“This typically has not been one of my favorite tracks, but we have been really strong here to open the season, and it is growing on me for sure,” Sanders said.

With 27 cars checked into the pit area to kick the 25th Anniversary Civil War Season off, Sanders timed his F&W Racing No. 18 machine in eighth fastest. Lining up on the front row of his heat race, contact with his fellow front row starter sent his machine up the race track, as he lost several positions.

Rebounding to finish in the third spot, Sanders would move into the feature event, where he would line up in the fifth row, on what was a very racy track surface. After an opening lap yellow, Sanders would slowly work his way forward during a seven lap green flag run as he ran in the seventh spot when the race’s final caution flew.

During a 22-lap non-stop run, Sanders was very good, as he gained spots as the leaders worked through dense traffic. Getting around Dominic Scelzi and Bradley Terrell, Sanders was able to wrestle the final podium spot away from Colby Wiesz in the race’s waning laps.

Making a bid for Andy Forsberg and Shane Golobic, lapped traffic was a little tricky, though Sanders was able to hold on and finish in the third spot.

“It is a nice way to get the Civil War season started,” Sanders said. “This is a championship we would love to capture, and it is great to get it started with a podium run. I have to thank all of my guys for their hard work, and Rudy and Bev Warrington for their support.”

ON TAP: Sanders and his F&W Racing team will travel to the Silver Dollar Speedway for a non-points show on Friday night, before traveling to the Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night for the second Civil War Series event of the season.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-5, Wins-1, Top-5’s-3, Top-10’s-4
