Justin Sanders Scores Trio of Top-5’s During Road to Dirt Cup

PETERSEN MEDIA: Heading back to Oregon and Washington over the weekend with the King of the West/NARC Series, Justin Sanders picked up a trio of Top-Five finishes during the four race ‘Road to Dirt Cup’.

“It was a decent weekend for us as we made our way towards Skagit Speedway and the Dirt Cup,” Justin Sanders said. “I wish I could have given this Mittry Motorsports a win or two, but I think we are headed in the right direction as we prepare for this weekend’s Super Dirt Cup.”

Sanders got the trip off to a good start last Thursday at Southern Oregon Speedway in Medford, OR. Timing in ninth fastest, Sanders finished second in his heat race before tallying a seventh-place finish in the Dash.

Taking the green flag from the fourth row, Sanders was quick to pick up a couple of positions as the track conditions quickly deteriorated. Working into fifth, Sanders held the position as he closed the first leg of the trip out with a Top-Five.

Friday night, the scene shifted to Roseburg, OR as the series made their first appearance as the new Douglas County Dirt Track. Earning quick time honors aboard the Farmers Brewing/Mittry Construction/North County Plastering No. 2x, Sanders set the rest of his night up well.

Finishing third in his heat race, Sanders moved into the Dash where a third-place finish lined him up in the second row of the feature event.

Jumping into second when the race came to life, Sanders chased after Corey Day who set a strong pace out in front. Able to close in on Day a few times, Sanders was never close enough to make a move for the top spot as he held on to finish second at the end of the 30-lapper.

Moving to Lebanon, OR on Saturday night, Sanders timed in ninth fastest in time trials and again raced to a third-place finish in his heat race. Missing out on a berth in the Dash, Sanders took the green flag for the feature event from the outside of the fourth row.

On another very slick and abrasive racing surface, Sanders took sixth when the race came to life, and made his move into the Top-Five on the 10th lap. With rubber down on the speedway, passing slowed tremendously and the race was cut to 25-laps as Sanders capped night three off with a fifth-place finish.

Moving into Washington on Sunday night, Sanders checked in at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, WA for one final night of action before kicking off the Super Dirt Cup later this week.

Getting off to an auspicious start on Sunday evening, Sanders’ 11th quick qualifying effort put him in the second row of his heat race. Finishing third, Sanders again missed out on the Dash as he lined up in the sixth row for the scheduled 30-lap feature event.

A wild feature event that drug on, saw Sanders slowly work his way into the Top-10 before a fuel stop was needed on lap 23.

After the fuel stop, it was deemed that the next stoppage on the track would end the race and that came one lap later as the checkered flag was displayed to the field on the 24th lap with Sanders in eighth.

“We have some work to do to get our car a little better for Skagit Speedway, but I am excited to race in a big event with a lot of money on the line,” Sanders added.

Justin and his team would like to thank Farmers Brewing, Mittry Construction, North County Plastering, Alkaline88, Andy’s Construction, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2022.

ON TAP: Sanders is now slated for the Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway that goes green on Thursday night.
