Justin Sanders Surges to Third Place Finish at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- While his bid for four consecutive wins at Placerville Speedway came up short, Justin Sanders was impressive in the closing stages of Saturday night’s race as he charged to a third-place finish.

“It’s been one of those things all year where we end up being so good late in the feature and the same was the case on Saturday night,” Justin Sanders said. “Unfortunately, I didn’t get timed in well and running second in our heat didn’t put us in the redraw and we started mid pack.”

With 29 cars checked in for the track’s fourth points paying event of the season, Sanders timed the Thompson’s Buick-GMC/Thompson’s Jeep-Ram/Dale Miller Septic Inc. backed entry in 12th fastest in time trials.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Sanders would hook up in a very entertaining battle with Joel Myers Jr for the race’s top spot. Unable to get by Myers, Jr, Sanders’ second place finish would put him 12th on the starting grid for the impending 25-lap feature event.

The race’s first 19 laps clicked off stoppage free, and Sanders would actually have trouble getting his mount moving forward during the extended green flag run. When the caution did fly he was in the 11th position, but the final six laps the attention would turn to him.

Using the double file restart to his advantage, Sanders would jump into the seventh position before the final caution of the night flew on the 21st circuit.

Jumping into fifth when the action resumed, Sanders would put on a show as he worked the cushion and took over the fourth position. Chasing after Andy Forsberg, Sanders would drive around Forsberg coming to white to take over third as he closed in on Willie Croft for second on the final lap.

Closing on Croft’s bumper in the final pair of corners, Sanders would cap off his late charge with a third-place finish.

“It really wasn’t looking like it would be a good night for us, but we really got rolling on those final two restarts,” Sanders said. “Thanks to Dale and Tara Miller, as well as to all of our supporters.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 9, Wins- 6, Top-5’s-8, Top-10’s-8

ON TAP: Sanders and Dale Miller Motorsports will return to Placerville Speedway on May 23rd.
