PETERSEN MEDIA: Justyn Cox has had a very memorable Summer on and off the track. The memorable Summer on the track continued over the weekend as Cox dominated the early portions of Friday’s Sprint Car Challenge Tour event in Placerville, CA before finishing fourth, and backed it up with an eighth place showing in Stockton, CA on Saturday night.

“Overall it was another pretty good weekend for our team,” Justyn Cox said. “Placerville was really solid, and Stockton went okay we just found the rubber the same time most everyone else did and finished eighth.”

Placerville Speedway on Saturday night saw Cox get his night off to a nice start as he timed the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex entry in third quickest in his qualifying group before picking up a heat race win.

Moving into the Dash, Cox would use the cushion to his advantage as he was able to get out front and pick up the win and sit on the pole for the 40-lap feature event.

When the feature event came to life, Cox was shot out of a cannon as he got up to the cushion quickly and began opening up a sizeable lead over the rest of the field. Building up a sizeable lead even through traffic, a caution on lap 22 would give Cox open track but would put the rest of the field on his bumper.

Nailing the restart, Cox would continue to ride the cushion out front, though behind him second running Cory Eliason would creep up to him while running on the bottom.

Getting into traffic, Cox would see his lead evaporate with 10-to-go as he had trouble in turn two on back to back laps. On the 31st lap, Cox would give up the lead as he fell back to the second spot just before the caution waived a lap later. Losing a couple of spots on the ensuring restart, Cox would still manage to score a top-five as he would finish in the fourth spot.

Traveling to Stockton, CA on Saturday night to take on the SCCT at Stockton Dirt Track, Cox would open the night up by timing the PM Truck Repair/Justice Brothers/K&N backed No. 31C in fourth quickest in his qualifying group before again winning the heat race.

Missing out on the Dash but being guaranteed a Top-10 starting position, Cox would take the green flag from the ninth starting spot. On the extremely slick surface, Cox would ride in the ninth spot in the early goings of the race before seeing a driver making the top work.

Moving up top quickly, Cox was able to pick up a couple of positions as he moved into the eighth spot as the rest of the field began moving to the top where rubber had been going down on the speedway.

Once in eight, passing was then at a premium and Cox stayed in line and closed his weekend out with an eighth place finish.

“Stockton ended a pretty long Top-Five streak, but I kind of had a feeling it would be a tough track for us,” Cox said. “Overall it was another really good weekend, and I am looking forward to taking a couple of weekends off.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, EyeLusions, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2017!
