PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night at Petaluma Speedway, Justyn Cox would run up front for a majority of the feature event but as the track changed towards the end of the race, Cox would slip back a little though still finished inside the Top-10 by way of an eighth place finish.

“We were good early, we were running up front and battling with Tim Kaeding,” Justyn Cox said. “With about 10 to go or so we just got really tight and held on to finish eighth.”

Timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c entry in third fastest in his qualifying group, the Clarksburg, CA driver would race his way to a heat race win and earn a spot in the all-important Dash.

Finishing third in the Dash, Cox would gird the field from the second row aboard the PM Truck Repair/Justice Brothers/K&N Backed entry. When the race came to life, Cox would get by Tanner Carrick as Tim Kaeding got by him simultaneously and would find himself in third.

Hanging with Kaeding, Cox would look to make a move as the leaders hit traffic but the yellow and red flags would negate his progress and give the leaders clear track on the seventh circuit.

After a couple of incidents kept the race under yellow flag conditions, Cox would continue to run in third as the leaders again found themselves in traffic as he was able to close in on both Kaeding and race leader, Willie Croft only to see a caution again get the leaders out of traffic.

Around the race’s haflway point, Cox would take a shot at Kaeding but his effort wouldn’t stick and he would lose a couple of positions to Tony Gualda and Shane Golobic in doing so.

Continuing to run in the fifth spot as the laps clicked down, Cox’s machine would get tight during the final green flag run of the night and it would result in him losing a couple more positions as he took the checkered flag with an eighth place finish.

“I think some moisture came back and it really had us tight,” Cox added. “Still a fun race, and I am glad we were able to finish with how these first seven races of the season have gone. Hopefully we can get back on track and have good speed again  this week in Placerville, CA.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!
