PETERSEN MEDIA- Though a little unorthodox, Tim Kaeding and his Lunstra Motorsports team picked up their first win of the season on Sunday night at the Badlands Motor Speedway after the on track winner was disqualified, one night after running third in the Silver Shootout.

“It is a funky way to get a win, but we lost one like this last year, so we will take it and look to get another one this weekend,” Tim Kaeding said. “This Lunstra Motorsports car was awesome all weekend long and I can’t thank everyone that pitches in enough for their continued effort.”

Competing with the National Sprint League on Friday night at the Jackson Motorplex, TK and company would kick their night off by timing in 17th quickest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, TK would take advantage of the prime starting position and pick up the win aboard his Dammer Trucking/Folkens Bros. Trucking/Mihm Trucking backed No. 3 car.

Lining up in the ninth row of the 25-lap A Main, the San Jose, CA driver would slowly work his way forward on what was a pretty racy ½ mile surface on Friday night. Late in the feature event Kaeding would be involved in a wreck that would cause severe frame damage to his entry, but able to restart with just a few laps left in the race Kaeding would rally from 20th to finish 13th.

Getting a new car put together for Saturday night’s Silver Shootout at the new Badlands Motor Speedway in Brandon, SD, TK would have a strong showing that saw him spend much of the night battling up front. Fighting a spark plug issue for much of the race, Kaeding’s crew would take advantage of a late red and fix the issue with just five laps to go.

Chasing after Mark Dobmeier and Terry McCarl for the final laps, Kaeding would close his night out with a third place finish.

Returning to Badlands on Sunday night for a 360ci race, Kaeding would again show speed as he worked his way into the Top-three in the race’s final laps. Getting into the second spot, Kaeding would end his night with a runner up finish, but during post race tech the on track winner would be disqualified and Kaeding would be named the race’s winner.

“We were really fast all weekend long and had some luck finally go our way on Sunday night,” Kaeding said. “I don’t know if I have ever won a race like that, but we will certainly do what we can this week to win one outright.”

The Lunstra Motorsports team would like to thank Dammer Trucking, Folkens Bros. Trucking, Mihm Trucking, Yager Agriculture Supply, Matt’s Repair, and Trac2Trail Arctic Cat for their support in 2016.

ON TAP: TK and the Lunstra Motorsports team will be back at the Badlands Motor Speedway this Saturday and Sunday night.
