PETERSEN MEDIA- While Justin Sanders was in the northwest racing with Mittry Motorsports, Kaleb Montgomery got the nod to fill in for the Aromas, CA driver during Sprint Car Challenge Tour action at Marysville Raceway. With Dale Miller Motorsports leading the series’ owner points, Montgomery put together a solid night as he scored an eighth-place finish.

“I’m thankful Dale and Tara Miller have the confidence in me to fill in for Justin Sanders as they chase after the Sprint Car Challenge Tour team championship,” Kaleb Montgomery said. “I think it was a good points night for them, and I am happy to get them a solid result.”

Timing in fourth quickest in his qualifying group, Montgomery lined the Thompson’s Buick-GMC/Thompson’s Jeep-Ram/Dale Miller Septic Inc. backed entry up in the second row of his heat race.

Jumping into second when the race went green, Montgomery was hot on the trail of race leader Gauge Garcia. As time ran out, Montgomery settled for second and was securely in the 35-lap Mel and Marlyn Hall Memorial feature event.

Lining up 11th in the feature, Montgomery had his hands full as he worked through tricky traffic on a very racy Marysville Raceway surface. With cars all over and contact picking up around him, Montgomery spent much of the night bouncing in and out of the Top-10 as he kept his nose clean.

Amidst a wild feature event at times, Montgomery ran a smart race that ultimately saw him take the checkered flag with an eighth-place finish.

“I messed up in qualifying and kind of put us in a bit of a hole,” Montgomery said. “Dale Miller had the car great in the feature, but it was a roller coaster as we would get going forward, then get shuffled back. All in all, to come home eight, I needed to do a little bit of a better job, but I wanted to make sure they had a solid night to keep their title hopes alive. Thankful for the opportunity and looking forward to doing it again.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 5, Wins- 2, Top-5’s-5, Top-10’s-5

ON TAP: Dale Miller Motorsports and Justin Sanders return to racing action on June 2nd at Placerville Speedway to open the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial with the SCCT.
