PETERSEN MEDIA: After a week off, Kalib Henry and McColloch Motorsports were back in action at Placerville Speedway, as the team recorded a Top-10 finish as they now ready for a big two-day race weekend of the 4th of July Holiday weekend.
“It was a good night for us,” Kalib Henry said. “We opted to try some stuff in the feature, and it wasn’t fantastic, but we learned, and we are ready for two big nights of racing this week.”
Laying down a strong lap in qualifying time trials, Henry would time the McColloch’s RV Repair/Express Sewer and Drain/Davis Truck Painting backed no. 17 entry in second fastest amongst the 29 cars checked at the famed northern California bullring.
Lining up fourth in his heat race, the Mather, CA product would just need to finish inside the Top-5 to not only transfer into the feature, but also garner a spot in the redraw based on his qualifying efforts.
Finishing second to Landon Brooks, Henry would go on to pull the six pill for his feature event starting position.
Opting to make a couple of changes prior to the feature to test out for this upcoming weekend, it would result in Henry being too tight on the cushion, which was an issue with the top being the dominant lane on this night.
Despite his struggles, Henry would attack the curb lap after lap, and keep the McColloch Motorsports entry inside the Top-10 for the duration of the 25-lap feature event.
Having a couple of near incidents while wrestling his machine, Henry would cap the night off with a 7th place finish when the dust settled, and the checkered flag flew.
“We wanted to try some minor things, and it just made us too tight,” Henry said. “We kind of thought it would happen, but with a couple of big races upcoming we used Saturday night as a sort of trial-and-error night. We definitely learned from it, and we are ready for this weekend.
