PETERSEN MEDIA- St. Marys, NSW native, Kerry Madsen, closed out his hot July, by picking up three top fives in Canada, including a pair of second place finishes.

“I’ve said it all year long, and I will keep saying it, my team works hard to give me a very fast car, and I am just fortunate,” Madsen explained.

Kicking the three-race Canadian tour off at the Autodrome Drummond in Drummondville, QUE, Madsen got off to a very strong start, as he was the fastest driver in time trials, putting his Keneric Racing/American Racing machine in the second row of his heat race.

Fourth place finishes in his heat, and the dash, put Madsen in the second row of the feature event. Following the race’s lone caution on the third lap, Madsen moved into the third spot on the restart, before getting past Paul McMahan a lap later to move into the second spot.

As the leaders got into traffic on the eighth lap, Madsen moved in on race leader, Cody Darrah, and hounded in heavy traffic for nine laps, before sliding to the lead on the 17th lap.

Running out front, Madsen began feeling pressure from Donny Schatz, and as he bobbled on the 22nd lap, Schatz was able to erase the lead, and drop Madsen to the second spot on the 27th lap. Madsen would hang on to the second spot at the line.

Moving to Cornall, ONT on Sunday night, Madsen continued to show speed North of the Border, as he was fifth fastest in time trials.

A fourth place finish in his heat race, put ‘The Mad Man’ on the front row of the Dash, which he won, putting him on the pole for the feature event.

Getting out to the early lead, Madsen again felt pressure from Schatz, just as he did the nigh before, and with the caution waiving on the sixth lap, it erased what lead Madsen had built up.

Returning to action, Madsen got the jump on the restart, but on the 10th lap, Schatz was able to slide up in front of him to take the lead, before cautions began falling in succession.

Continuing to run in the second spot, Madsen would keep Schatz in shouting distance during the remained of the 40-lap feature event, and when the checkered fell, he came across in the second position.

“We will take second place finishes any day of the week,” Madsen said. “Yes, we want to win, but we just got beat by a better car tonight, but we are certainly happy with our performance.”

Tuesday night saw the series head to the Ohsweken Speedway to close out their tour North of the Border, and Madsen continued to get off to a quick start, as he timed in sixth fastest, before finishing third in his heat race.

Starting sixth in the feature, by way of his Dash finish, Madsen worked his way into the fourth spot, during a race that was plagued with cautions and stoppages.

Chasing after fellow countryman, James McFadden, who rode in the third spot, Madsen also had to fend off a challenge from a charging David Gravel, but as the race drew to a close, Madsen ended his trip with a very strong fourth place finish. “I have to tip my hat to Bob and Pete Gavranich, Dan from American Racing, and all of the people who support this operation,” Madsen added. “This has been a huge month for our team, and hopefully we can take this momentum with us into a couple of huge races on our schedule.”
